my Roots

I am a Calgary girl with a family history rooted in the small towns of southern Alberta, extending back to Scandinavia. I am proud of where I came from and how resilience is ingrained in my heritage.

artist statement

I am an empathic person who feels deeply about beauty and justice in my world… but these days seemed to be filled with injustice and ugliness. I choose to share my human experience thru my making.

The faces I create often seem worn, weathered, exaggerated…but beautiful. It is a reflection of how we can be weathered physically by our life story. We all experience hardship to different degrees…as it is said, you never know a stranger’s story….

Some of my artwork takes a critical view of ageism and gender issues - exploring the discrepancy between the ideals & the reality of aging, referencing human emotion and grief or humor. I use clay to reflect on humans and their environment; portraits that could remind you of someone from your family and the life story they may or may not have shared with you.
